Just sent again and showed two attachments total 11mb. Titled Henry 1 and Henry 2, but I don't see anything but Dewson this time either.

Still nothing in the in-box. Make sure the email address is correct. I'll send you it again.

Strange. I forwarded to you using same address. You have a filter going?

Found them in an odd folder. Afraid I can't make it out...Definitely not "Henry". AI might decipher the font.

I'm pretty sure this is what is called "Blackletter" in "Old English": This from Wikipedia:

With these photos, pretty sure it is D ? w s o n. Whether the "?" is an "a" or an "e" is open but it does look more "e" - like:

Thanks a lot! Since there is nothing on a Dewson, is there anything on a Dawson? I"ll tell my caregiver she needs new glasses. Can you use a better pic of the underbarrels to help age this piece?
Coincidentally, the old railroad engineer I boutht it from bought it from a gunsmith in Dawson, ND. The town has a rich history as the destination of wealthy railroad magnates that hunted the nearby lakes for waterfowl. They began arriving in Dawson about the time the town was founded. Now I am wondering whether some of these names we see on lockplates were those of owners not makers.

Lagopus from UK posted this above: "I can find Jewson of Halifax and Dawson of Lincolnshire." Higher resolution photos of both the underside of the barrels and the side plate might help. Wonder if the fellow from Dawson bought it from UK Dawson specifically because of the name of the maker? Gene

Thank you. Caregiver will take pics of the underbarrels tomorrow.

Take another picture of that "E" - "A" whatever. Anyway, interesting investigation.

Hal's pictures show a mid-level quality 10 bore, proofed in Birmingham, with the name on the side plates appearing to be indeed D e w s o n. The barrel maker was "TB." So since no-one can identify a gunmaker named "Dewson," one guesses for now the story stops here. Interesting search and this type of thing is always fun. Perhaps a look at the UK newspaper database and a search for "Dawson" might turn something up.
