The 30 Newton was most likely based on the 8x68S (Schuler) case. His 256 Newton was based on a necked down 30-06.
The belted Newton was a later wildcat development, like the .35 Whelen, it was named after the man that inspired it.
Western stopped production of both rounds about 1938.
