More pics of the Halliday. It is definitely a Skimin & Wood action and was re-barreled by Aurthur Turner of Sheffield sometime before 1954 (per the proof marks). The barrels do have the JA mark of Joseph Asbury who made (most?) of the S&W barrels—perhaps Turner contracted him to do the new barrels? There is also a JY mark on the bbls. The barrel replacement was done expertly--beautiful work and great balance. It is choked M/IM which is tight for the grouse woods, but again--I'll redo the pattern once the stock gets a touch more LOP.

Here is another 2" made by CH Weston, a maker I have no familiarity with. Very nice configuration and lineage. Albeit you would have to import from the UK.

That Weston is a bit high priced, even before getting from England. Also, is that a repaired crack left of the tang coming down from the top?

Here are a couple more that are not S&Ws. They are sidelocks to boot. These have been sitting around for at least a couple of years on their website.

One thing that stands out to me about the quality of the Halliday depicted is the beauty of the stock without sacrificing strength at the wrist. The straightness of the grain lends itself to strength. Anyone who has had a stock break at the wrist would appreciate the stock on this gun. Gil

"That Weston is a bit high priced"

If you read their literature each gun they have is stripped, cleaned, repaired and the wood recheckered as need be. So their guns are a bit more expensive than the ordinary seller who is just flipping guns. I do agree their prices are up there and with export/import fees you have the really want it.

Good to know. That does make a difference. A nice gun for certain.
