Ford has it explained. Typically when you go down the FMJ road, you teeter on AP(Armour Piercing) and then Tracers and this is almost always on the military side of collecting. I just wouldn't entertain any of it but I am a pot calling the kettle black as I have AP and maybe a few tracers. From what I can tell, the AP 30-06 cartridges seen to falter...... Then someone pulls the bullets....

So back to the theme of the thread, Ford would you shoot AP or Tracers thru a Drilling?

Amazing find..... One just never knows what is out there. I would be hesitant to use in Hunting as the GW might not cotton to it. But who knows....

Raimey, Even though I wouldn't buy a 30-06 drilling because that is a rimless cartridge, a little AP ammo wouldn't hurt, but it would be more appropriate in the Springfield or M1. Regarding Tracer ammo, I wouldn't use it in any of my rifles. In addition to the fire hazard, I don't know how the tracer chemicals affect barrel steel.
HalfaDouble/Raimey We used to buy M2 Ball ammo for $6 t0 $7 a hundred rounds, more than $1 a round doesn't seem like much of a buy to an old guy. Mike

I’m not sure why you would want to shoot anything but a quality brand hunting bullet through a drilling. Not something you would normally be putting numerous rounds through.
Dodging lions and wasting time.....

I agree 100% and I wouldn't sling anything down range but a proper bullet.

You gentlemen have good points. I’m a shotgun guy and don’t know much about rifles. I have 3 other drillings in 8x57jr .318s. W the 30-06, I was considering target practice is all to get used to it. If the fmjs are to be hard on it, then I will save them for a bolt action. Thank you for your advice Kurt
