The Jaeger 1903 rifle arrived at my FFL... got to give Griffin & Howe props for the packing job... rifle was well protected. Did the paperwork and now I have to wait another 14 days to "cool off" before I can bring it home. The military barrel was completely buffed, so no markings show (hoped for star gauge) under the stock. Only "30-06" on left side of barrel in front of receiver. Bolt isn't numbered to action. No marks in the bolt channel. Under the butt plate is stamped "FRV" and "62 2". Michael Petrov vol. 2 identifies the initials to Jaeger's stock maker Fritz R. Voigt. The Lyman 48 sight body is unmarked. Sight slide & channel both have "K-45" markings. Sling swivels are marked "Jaeger". Bore is pristine. The white lines on the stock appear to be drywall/paint impact marks. ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/U7yJ7xG.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/oDmCcEQ.jpg)

Got to love the "fit" workmanship of the butt plate to the butt stock.

Any updates on this? Were you able to find a Jaeger scope mount that mated to the base?

Thanks for the update, they did a nice job of timing the screws on the base.

I was thinking about the timing of the screws myself when I posted. More proof of a craftsman who knew what to do and the result was a highly valued reputation. I've known some good gunsmiths over the years. And I've known a few not so good gunsmiths that I wish I'd never met or entrusted my firearms too. Currently, I'm fortunate to have Monte Manderino help with a few of my projects... he's an amazing artist when it comes to firearms. He's taught me a great deal and I've become "infected" with an irresistible urge to pursue classic (1915-1960), custom made rifles... he's also told me "don't" several times when I've sent him links to items for sale online... then he's explained the reason's why. I'm 66 and still learning and having a blast doing it... Back to the Jaeger, I would be interested in hearing thoughts re: having the bolt knob checkered... it just seems "unfinished" to me without it... I might not recoup my investment down the road, but I've become enamored with quality "3 or 4 petal designs w/ outline" on a bolt handle...

Looks like having Charity do the engraving would cost significantly less than G&H. I’d have Charity do it. Her work looks superb. I’m sure it will look sharp.

I've left several messages & emails for Charity and haven't heard back yet. Not sure what to think at this point... if I am able to connect with her I have three bolts that I would like done...

OSS, Jaeger didn't make it that way, so why would you checker the bolt knob? Tell Monte hi from Dan H.

Dan... Honestly, I don't have a sound reason for checkering the Jaeger bolt. I'm sure Monte will ask "why" as well.
