Those flip up peep sights are known as Baillie Grohman peep sights after William Adolph Baiilie Grohman who claimed in his book Sport in the Alps 1896 to have invented them.
The operation actuated by moving a little chequered stud sideways always reminds me of a flick knife.
Auction prices for these rifles in the U.K. have risen sharply as a result of the various Mannlicher cartridges being moved on to the Obsolete Calibres List.
This means they can be bought without a Firearms Certificate unless it is intended to use them.
