Got an upgrade for the 1903 that I already own. That's an early Christmas present I wouldn't mind getting, I'm a little jealous also, lovely rifle. Have you shot one of these rifles with the pistol grip peep before, or is this your first?

2 of my collection have them. They help old eyes greatly in seeing the sights clearly.

Those flip up peep sights are known as Baillie Grohman peep sights after William Adolph Baiilie Grohman who claimed in his book Sport in the Alps 1896 to have invented them.
The operation actuated by moving a little chequered stud sideways always reminds me of a flick knife.
Auction prices for these rifles in the U.K. have risen sharply as a result of the various Mannlicher cartridges being moved on to the Obsolete Calibres List.
This means they can be bought without a Firearms Certificate unless it is intended to use them.

Is the peep adjustable for elevation so it can be used as the rear sight alone, or is it designed to be used with the rear barrel sight as a "clarifier"?
Similar sights are found on much older Germanic rifles I think.
