Here's the long previous thread about 2" shells
https://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=630238

I looked through my wall thickness data and couldn't find a measurement of a 2" end of chamber
Lots of fluid steel 2 1/2" from .090 to .105 or so.

In 1935, the Proof House determined the 2” “cartridge loaded with full 2 1/2” charge may shortly be a standard British cartridge (and) proof of the 2” gun should be identical with the 2 1/2”’.
The proof pressure for the 2 1/2” cartridge was lowered in 1954 to 3 tons = about 9000 psi service and for the 2” cartridge to 2 3/4 tons = about 8,300 psi service.

In 1955 Burrard reported actual shell pressure measurements for the 12g 2” 7/8 oz. 2.36 Dr. Eq. at standard service 6,440 psi and max. service 8,960 psi.

CIP pressure standards for 2", 2 1/2" and 2 3/4" are the same; Maximum Average (SERVICE) Pressure 740 BAR = 10,733 psi; Maximum Statistical Individual Pressure 850 BAR = 12,328 psi

SO it is very likely that 2" end of chamber and 9" MWT are no different than 2 1/2"

Every 2" chambered gun I have measured has had thin walls. Very thin in some cases. If it passes proof it passes proof. They all started out with thin barrels. The last three I measure had areas of .014 or less in one or both barrels. That is just over two coke cans in thickness. But sane loads, with proper pressure, should be safe. My issue with owing one was I could do everything with a 16 or 20 and even find a double which weighed the same, with thicker barrels. Size does matter.

After hearing about these wall thicknesses on 2" guns, I will pass. I do have some 2" ammunition, both RST and Remington which I will probably not need now.

You are missing out, but that leaves more for the rest of us. Pretty easy to get decent wall thickness, if you look for it.

[quote=KDGJ]No I don’t load my own 2” shells. I load 2.5” shells, but never tried to roll crimp shells. I know BrentD loads his 2” shells. I’m glad RST started loading 2” shells again. Kansas can be hit or miss on birds. The bird numbers are really down with the long drought and land being taken out of CRP. If you hunted MT, ND, and SD you are hunting some great states for pheasant.

I live in Kansas and hunt here 20-30 days a season, sadly I see more wild birds in one week in ND or another week in SD than all season here. Yes there are some hot spots, but you really have to work for them and they are not easy to find.
