Mr. Rowe, is the hut wrench used as is, or would an extension of the handle be used ? Also, why is the handle shaped to a point ? http://www.bakercollectors.com/

Although the diameter you gave would be about right for a patent breech plug reamer. The hut wrench would be used as is. There is plenty of leverage available with that length of handle, as the plugs were usually not screwed in super tight (it isn't necessary). We have to work at getting some of them out now, simply because they haven't been out for 150 years! I think the pointy handle is purely decorative.
