Craig, what you miss, and what Ted misses is just how different the regions are. In Ontario and Quebec and the East Coast, home to more than half the population of Canada that sneering hate for the US is common. But it’s near non existent in the West.
The West overwhelmingly votes conservative at the federal level. Quebec votes for a separatist party or Liberal. The East coast normally votes Liberal. Ontario usually has a Liberal majority.
The point I’m making and you and Ted aren’t getting is you are discussing and characterizing Canada as though it’s a monolithic entity. You have no idea the existential undercurrents going on. Not surprising that you don’t know….why would you? It’s not just the lefty problem up here. Canada is failing as a cohesive entity for reasons that have little to do with Left and Right.
Would you think it fair that I characterize all Americans and the policies they support and vote for based on California, Minnesota, NYC and Mass? Would you think it fair that I dismiss you and Ted as ineffectual leftards when the Democrats hold power? It’s taken a rather massive sea change to begin to turn your ship around and you have way more checks and balances built into your system than we do. On the subject of government overreach, free shit army, biased media, entrenched bureaucracy and weaponizinf state agencies against the people, I don’t think you have much to feel proud about. What you should feel proud about is that you’ve started the pendulum swinging. But you’ve only just started.
