.....Go back to what I said about two Californias and think about that. You’d be screwed. Trump amd MAGA won a great victory but the margin of votes, considering the 330 million or so who live in the US, wasn’t all that much. If they hadn’t won, would that mean all Americans are useless do-nothings?....
It's helpful to point out that the US is a representative republic. There are US elections, and the dems often tout that they win the popular vote. That would be mob rule. The two kalis, the left one and the ny one, can easily hold sway with a few like minded places, over the entire country, but it can't. rmbill here has advocated for kali having more Senators, in "fairness" for their large population, but two senators per US state are a meaningful check and balance. Just as the electoral college is for dems, depending which way the wind is blowing.
Fifty percent plus one vote, of the turnout is not the way the US is supposed to operate. What you see as, "wasn't all that much", was actually a stunning and overwhelming victory. Both parties had legions of lawyers, poised to file injunctions and oversee recounts. But, the morning after the election was nationwide calm and acceptance, save literally a few pockets of mouthpieces. There are more criminals, climate proponents, firebombing green new deal Tesla dealerships, than the day after elections.
No, Canada is not monolithic. I have the opinion that it is becoming monolithic, for many practical purposes. Keep fighting the good fight, from my cheap seat, things might be slipping quicker than you seem inclined to admit. The US hit a long odds lottery, and polling today say dem party popularity is at a decades low, not that a dictator squeaked in by the skin of his teeth.
