One small tid-bit of supposition is that when Lindner switched tube mechanic horses from a cadry of tube subcontractors like Stobbe(Vierling Specialist), Eckoldt, etc. to primarily Robert Schlegelmilch, that his sub mainly turned out Black & White or maybe S,D. & G. demanded Black & White tubes?? Most Series II Lindners will wear R.S. initials.

Raimey, a careful examination of the barrel marks suggests no initials stamped from anyone. Now, they may have showed at one point but there is nothing there now.

It is an HAL over pistols gun, that mark is reasonably visible on both barrels. The proof crown over V is so faint that the V is barely visible as a V (more like a single oblique line) and the crown is long gone. No initial of any mechanic is visible. And while the flats are stamped with the serial number, ahead of the flats the barrels have their own number......632 stamped.

Transitional Version between Series I & Series II. Made between January - April `1893. Cities & Municipalities were mandated by law to order the stamps and then destroy them on April 1st, maybe April 2nd. That is if the >>V<< is the Vorrat stamp.

Check close to the lower rib just forward on the flats & there will be initials, unless they have been worked off....

Although, AB, AS & EE are other front runners....

A little later in the morning and with noticeably more good daylight I can find the remnants of AS, I believe. Definitely an A and more likely an S than a B.

And if I understand those early proof marks, the likely alternative to a V is a W. Which has some visual similarity. However, it sure looks like it would be a V based on the even fainter remnant of the crown. The line I can see appears to be where it should be if the V was centred under the crown.

Just thinking aloud here. If it is the provisional mark of Crown over V, then we get a pretty accurate window for date of production. Which gives clues as to dating other serial numbers that are before or after this one.

Well, I was wrong. I had all my Chips on J.W.

They always added punctuation.

Thanks Raimey. As always.

Do we know who A.S. was?

The biggest probability arrow for the mechanic who applied A.S. initials points to Albert Stobbe for now. All these guys hung out their shingle around when Lindner did. I guess I should compare addresses.....

Raimey, I have someone in my home right now with much better eyes than me. Probably because she's 40 years younger than I am. LOL

I had her look at the initials. She says it's clear. They are R.S.

What I thought was an A she says is clearly an R and laughed at my ineptitude.
