I use un-dyed canvas that I wash in warm water to remove any filler and make it soft. The canvas is a cover for the padding I make from old wool socks which have also been washed in hot water only. This washing removes any old detergent and shrinks them to make them more cushy. My current safe rack is made from a reclaimed 150 year old oak barn timber, with all the contact points covered by the padded canvas. Working that hard old oak was challenge but I'm looking for a project that will be a bit more visible for the chunk I have left.
