1 & 5/8 oz lead load is at the lower end of 10 gauge data for Blue Dot.

I think that you are most unlikely to make that a load with workable ballistics in the 8 bore. A magnum shotshell primer may be worth a try, but...??

I had to use 7 gauge wads in brass shells with smokeless powder to get good ignition. In plastic or paper shells 8 gauge or even 9 gauge wads worked fine.

I am using 7 gauge in the brass. I'm going to find some plastic so that I can get a crimp. I don't think that the overshot card is holding until the powder ignites.
