For the last 2 days I've been loading test shells for my BP 8 gauge single shot. BP will fire with no problems using large magnum pistol primers in brass cases. I've also been trying blue dot for a smokeless load, but can't get one to quit hang firing. Has anyone loaded Blue dot in 8 gauge before that might explain to me what is wrong? Thanks. Mike

Blue Dot should be fine for heavy loads. If you are loading a light shot load, Blue Dot may be too slow a powder. However, a hang fire may be another problem. How far up in the case does the Blue Dot go? Does the primer sit under the powder? The primer may be higher than the powder in a brass case causing uneven ignition.

eightbore I have been loading light loads. 44 grains BD, over powder card fiber wads and 1 5/8oz shot. Powder goes up about 3/4". Base inside the cases is flat. ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/D8PjRfq.jpg)

Yesterday I changed the primer pocket from the large pistol primer to a shotgun primer. Same problem, hangfire and no real velocity. I think that it's the lack of a crimp to hold it in the case until the primer lights the powder. I've used water glass and hot glue on the overshot card but no dice. I guess the next experiment will be to try and find some plastic cases so that I can roll crimp them=

I was looking at a Midland 8 gauge yesterday in the Owatonna, Cabelas last night. The attendant said the was ammunition available for it, but did not say where. He might be worth calling if you need help locating components.
The Midland was a very nice gun, along with several others in the library.
