Clean and degrease the area

Warm the area ( I use HOT tap water)

let dry

apply cold blue ( Q-tip once in bottle, never put back in)

wait,

burnish the area with 000 steel wool

Repeat until proper color

Finally use 3 in 1 oil to seal and finish the area

I like Outers Gun Blue but each different steel has a favorite

or Brownells
