Actually, no. DEET is a much better product to repel ticks than Pyrethrin. But DEET may have some side effects, and is banned in some countries. Picardin is considered to be safer than DEET, and like DEET, may be used on bare skin.

You'd think someone with a PhD in Ecology would know the difference between Pyrethrin and Permethrin. Pyrethrin is a natural pesticide and pest repellent derived from chrysanthemums and marigolds. Permethrin is manmade, much stronger, and is commonly used to treat clothing to kill and repel ticks in a 0.5% concentration. Neither Pyrethrin or Permethrin should be applied to bare skin.
