I have custom molded plugs that are really old and a pair of EAR digital plugs, which I only wear when hunting. They aren't comfortable but I want to be able to hear a flush and discuss movement in the field. Recently I am seeing a lot of ads for Axil plugs. It looks like they have passive and battery powered ones. Does anyone have any real experience with them?

I have a set of rechargeable ear plugs by OTTO Engineering that work well. My nephew who does a lot of combat/cop type competition turned me on to them. They're not cheap though.

ESP active plugs

I'm not familiar with Axil but I've been using ESP for all my hunting (except turkey) for 5-6 years. Comfortable and effective, but pricey. You go to a dealer and get custom fitted for them.
For clay shooting, I use active muffs over passive plugs for maximum protection.

Don't know anything about that brand, AXIL. But, I've tried everything from active muffs to foam earplugs, and many other things over the years. Now, it's custom molded passive rubber earplugs only. They give me all the protection I need and feel so comfortable I actually forget i'm wearing them. I can hear conversation but the damaging noise is attenuated. I've got no plans to ever change. I do not believe I have had any further hearing loss since beginning to wear them In 2010.

Most of my hearing loss was from working underneath jet fighters in the Navy and driving open station tractors on the farm most of my life.

Stan,
I've been using the custom molded plugs for nearly 40 years with great effect as well. Thankfully the military didn't damage my hearing, as I always wore hearing protection. Sometimes I'll double up with muffs as well at the pistol range.

Karl, I wore muffs at all times when working under the jets "hot". But, it wasn't enough. No complaints, though. I loved what i did.

Hi everyone, I’m new here and have 2 sets of Axil hearing protection/enhancers.
I like them, they’re comfortable, rechargeable, bluetooth (for phone calls or music), and pretty reasonable. They come with different size inserts, of silicone style for more comfort and lighter duty protection, and foam inserts, also 3 sizes, for people with different sized ear canals and I think between 23-26 db nr.
I’m around a lot of racecars and work in loud environments, but also have used them a couple times when shooting. The sound enhancement is pretty good, but not crystal clear. As ear plugs, they’re almost as good as the USGI plugs. The reaction to loud noise is about 90% from what I remember. You can easily still double them up with muffs and still carryon conversions.
Are they perfect? No. People can’t hear me in phone calls, but I can hear them great. I’m not a loud talker, so I’m not a good example for that feature. I know they keep my ears comfortable in loud environments and are light, non intrusive on stocks, and easy to keep with you because they are small.
