I knew a lovely old boy, who in 1944 as a 17 year old Home Guard Gunner was one of a 3.7inch gun team who brought down a V.1 Doodlebug (one of the very first cruise missiles).
They almost succeeded too well, as they could see it plummeting towards them.
When they emerged for the shelter they had dived into, they found the crater just in front of the gun pit. The barrel of the 3.7 was bent up like a banana.
When William passed a few years ago he must have been one of the last men with a V.1 in his score book.
I take it that the guy in the photo avoids taking them too far in front, and avoids standing in front of his house when doing so.
It's like arming the Quail. Time to break out the old 4 and 6 gauges. They are back in vogue.
"Viktor Taran, the CEO of the KRUK drone training school in Kyiv that has trained over 8,000 people, told BI that when it comes to fiber-optic drones, "the only way to take those drones down is mechanical," like with shotguns.
Pervak said shotguns can be very "effective against any kind of drone. It doesn't matter what size the drone is, what frequencies it has, or whether it is a fiber-optic drone."
Ted, after the Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian strategic air assets and the Israeli drone attacks from inside Iran, we can be pretty well guaranteed or at least hope that there is a major rewriting of the laws and a major overhaul of defensive policies on US bases. One can imagine the damage some terrorist or Chinese cell or even some misguided kids could do to our bombers here, to the White House, the Capital.
Nobody is going to start shooting down Amazon delivery drones but the bad actor threat is so real and so apparent now that something must be done urgently. I'm not saying issue SxS's to all the border guards at US bases but on second thought it's not a bad idea as a last ditch defense.
Gene, This video is seven years old. You are most of a decade late, and a trillion short to make any difference. We are not permitted to shoot at drones because the drones, matter.
Not sure who Norma loads it for, I seriously doubt it would be for European civilians, for the usual reasons.
Best, Ted
"Can you shoot down drones above your property? No. It’s illegal under federal law to shoot at an aircraft. A private citizen shooting at any aircraft – including unmanned aircraft – poses a significant safety hazard. An unmanned aircraft hit by gunfire could crash, causing damage to persons or property on the ground, or it could collide with other objects in the air. Shooting at an unmanned aircraft could result in a civil penalty from the FAA and/or criminal charges from federal, state or local law enforcement."
I copied the above from the link you posted, Ted. I highlighted one word in red. Not all drone shootings result in criminal charges. It's highly dependent on the local authorities. I know personally of one such incident at a live pigeon match where animal right's activists were attempting to video the goings on. The owner of the location gave the order to shoot it down if it came back. It did, and they did. The incident went viral and there are several youtube videos, recorded and posted by the activists.
No charges were filed, and the activists haven't been back with a drone, that I know of. It helps living in a county where you can personally know the sheriff, who is actually a sane person.
Long odds for me, Stan. If the FAA shows up, your buddy the sheriff is going to be told, in no uncertain terms, to stand down and cooperate with the Feds.
I’m not opposed to shooting them down. I’m just opposed to putting myself in a place where I have to depend on law enforcement, at any level, having to make a judgement call on a situation I’m involved in.
You are eventually going to get to a cop who doesn’t know you. Pointing out the weasel word in their regulations won’t save my ass in court.
Those Norma AD-LER shells would be awesome for waterfowl. But, a good old Remington Express 3 inch with #2 lead would be pretty much as effective, just cheaper.

Biting down on a tungsten pellet probably wouldn’t end well.
Ted, drone swarms and drone defense are again in the news today. I just went back and looked at that film clip you posted and it is terrifying.
My wife and son are using AI extensively in their researches. Son just said he had a three hour conversation with AI on an academic paper he was writing - not just writing style or grammar but a deep exchange on intellectual ideas and topics, literary references and philosophical musings and when he finished and went down for a drink in his local bar in NYC, he found the human conversation incredibly boring and lame.
We are in a brave new world. and that film clip has stuck in my mind - as someone who has been in conflicts and saw and hallucinated on a video clip of a drone chasing a North Koran soldier around a tree. It is so real you can almost taste a future disaster coming, perhaps within the next five years. And I don't need a drone load - #4 shot should do it unless as in the film the drone is so adroit that it can dodge.
Heaven help us if the sporting clays site decides to substitute clays for small drones and equip them with counter measures and offensive riposte capabilities. Better wear body armor to the range.
Didn't you mean, substitute small clays for drones, instead of the opposite? Clays are already present at the sporting clays ranges, at least in Georgia.
Be careful to exposite accurately when you propose outlandish possibilities, Gene. 😉

Has he considered a move to Mississippi? Walk into a bar down there and you’re liable to find someone holding forth on Solzhenitsyn’s Gulag. First couple chapters anyways.
I’ve been experimenting with AI myself. I asked it to create an illustration of a gentleman in a fine automobile. Spit out a picture of some old guy in cargo shorts and a boonie hat driving an Oldsmobile. I’m no expert but I believe that’s called a hallucination.

“Hey Siri, show me a picture of a Detroit based veteran on his idea of a motorcycle”
Wonder how the schools in Michigan perform compared to Mississippi.
Rhetorical, Donny. Everybody who mattered already knew. 41st out of 50.
Best, Ted
_______________________________________________________________________ Hmm. I think that is called Michigan medium, Siri. Thank God he ain’t in cargo shorts.

Argo44 is doing a great public service by Posting his off-topic message concerning the threat to our national security that has resulted largely due to Democrats and the Biden Administration obstruction of Border Security and Immigration law.
Just the numbers of Chinese nationals alone that have illegally entered our country during the Biden era is staggering. Illegal entries by Chinese increased by over 7000%. Many of them were involved in the Fentanyl and illegal narcotics trade that was responsible for the deaths of nearly 400,000 U.S. citizens in only four years. Many others were here for spying and other nefarious purposes. We also have PRC Chinese buying up large tracts of land very close to U.S. Military Bases, which could certainly put their drones and drone operators too close for a timely response to a surprise attack.
Then we also have massive numbers of criminals and terrorists that came in from Muslim countries and just about every country on earth. Many Security experts are predicting an imminent large scale attack in the U.S. designed to maximize casualties. A large percentage of the roughly 20 million illegals that came in under Biden are military age males. And our tax dollars were used to bring them in, feed and house them, provide them free Health Care, etc. You have to be brain dead or mentally ill to vote for a Party that undermines the nation like that.
Just more proof that Elections have consequences. Now Trump and our DoD are left with the grave problem of finding solutions before something very bad happens.
Of course, if something bad like a terrorist attack does happen, Democrats will be very quick to blame Trump for the problem they created. And if Trump, Pete Hegseth, & Co. do come up with any solutions, Democrats will likely be quick to file lawsuits and get injunctions from partisan Judges to stop them.
Voting for anti-gun Democrats is dumber than giving treats to a dog that shits on a Persian Rug
