Looking for a decent 410 SXS hammergun. Understood, there isn’t much out there, but hoping to find a decent gun without the price of the Crown Jewels…

Frustrating that a beautiful little thing like that would be stocked so straight and high. I couldn't possibly shoot it well.

Saw that before it was listed. Tried to get more information and it sold before I could do anything…

Why, oh why, would anyone want a single trigger on a hammergun? That's as out of place as tits on a boar hog.

…as are the beaver tails on Will Primos’ 1 of 1 five gun set of Purdey hammer doubles. IMO

That very same Carr hammer .410 still shows as for sale on Diggory’s Vintage Gun Journal website.

On that site it is in the original owners case (it stuck in my memory as my Badminton Big Game Shooting has the same chap’s book plate in the front).

I hope gun and case have not been separated?

I can’t tell much looking on the phone, but it looks quite good.

I will call Rock Island and have them pick it up today for review.

Something about that stock looks off. No mention of chambers, which is curious and overpriced for me

The Patstone .410 at Harper Field made a hammer price of £600 (so much for the £40 to £60 “estimate”).

I have previously owned 2 12-bore hammer guns by Patstone. Both with Scott patents and fairly certainly made by W.C. Scott.

Yeah, that estimate didn't seem very realistic with the rising interest in .410s. Pretty little gun though!

I bought a Purdey bar in wood 12 gauge from Peter. We have discussed the 410 and he showed me this gun before he posted it. I am not a fan of beaver tail fore ends on shotguns.

He is watching an auction in England that has a good looking 410 for sale. Hoping it will be affordable…

Almost useless, IMO, with zero choke in either barrel. For a .410 to be effective it is imperative that it have enough barrel constriction to deliver killing pattern density.

It could be choke sleeved, or possibly have screw ins added, if barrel thickness at the muzzle allowed it. Either some misguided individual ordered it that way or had the original constrictions honed out.

A travesty either way for such a pretty thing with 30" tubes.

or...perhaps just a lovely little advanced skeet gun, just as it is...

it would be fun to develop optimum patterns for it, by experimenting with different powders, wads and shot loads...

like we used to do way back when...

Just got this gun today from battle on this site. It is a nice gun, I can't wait to shoot it.

I will still consider another such hammergun in nicer condition, should anyone know of such. Until that time, this is really a great gun and hope to be shooting it soon...

Very nice!

I love the ebony fore-end tip. I'm anxious to get mine back from Mark and see how it turns out!

How long are those barrels, shrapnel? And, how are they choked?
