All good things come to an end.

This is/was the gunroom at MW Reynolds in downtown Denver on July 1st. The new gun laws in Colorado have caused several of the smaller gunshops out here to close and sadly, that includes this one. I started working with Mark in December of 2006 at his Englewood location and continued on through his move to downtown in 2014. Some beautiful guns and some fine fly rods moved through this space over the years and I was fortunate enough to have handled many (if not most) of them.

I learned so-much working here and met so-many lovely folks over the years, so it was something a "shock" to walk into the room and to see it like this last Tuesday. I am so-grateful for the opportunity to have experienced those beautiful things (& to even own and use a few of them).

The world changes (& so do we). Trying to get accustomed to that reality.

That is indeed a sad day.

I think back to when I was a kid, and the feeling I had going to bed the day before the opener for pheasant season was, to me, exactly the same as the night before Christmas. I was always so excited to get in the car with my Dad and my Mom’s Setter (a show dog that would hunt) and it occurs to me that the only kid I know who enjoys hunting with his dad is my own kid, but, it isn’t anywhere near as intense for him as it was for me.

That backdrop leads us to where we are now. None of my stuff was Abercrombie and Fitch, but, a kid could dream, right? I’m sure there was a time when that store was the stuff of dreams, but, those kids have different dreams today, it would seem. I was never there, Lloyd, but, I still regret seeing it go.

There is nothing like a good gunshop, but today you can look at and buy 10s of thousands of guns all over the country and even the world. I see and own guns I would never have seen in any brick and mortar gunshop anywhere I have lived.

Lloyd you have not lacked for acquiring nice guns of late. I doubt you would have found them in that shop.

It ain't all doom and gloom, guys. Pull up your big-boy pants and soldier on. .

Mark built a nice shop and a cool place to drop by & see guns that no other shop in Denver carried. I had several dealings with Mark over the years and still have the Parker repro 28ga DT 28" gun I bought from him when he was still on Broadway. The shop & gathering place is also where I met Lloyd & is the only reason I know of him other than on these pages. I always questioned why Mark moved the shop to downtown and never visited it there due to my distaste for everything downtown related.

Sadly, we gun guys knew this day was coming for a lot of small private gun shops in this area due to the onerous anti-gun legislation passed in this state over the last few years. Unfortunately, the perfect storm of events has caught up with a specialty shop like Marks with more to come in the future.

I wish Mark the best, he had a good run while it lasted & now this ERA in Denver has past like so many great sporting good outlets before him in this area, it saddens my heart when I think about it!!

You're correct. dems might consider snugging up their big gurl panties, and halt the once great state of Colorado's race to the bottom on every facet of social policy, courtesy the gov and herms husband.

It was so much more than a gun store. If it was just about guns it wouldn’t have mattered as much as it did. We’ve lost more than our share locally, places you could buy 2 1/2” ammunition, clothing that was aimed at and for guys who hunted and fished, and kit for same, and the chance to rub shoulders with like minded souls who did those things. I couldn’t get Frost Proof or Filson gear at Target, or K-Mart, but, I could at Burgher Brothers, sadly gone as well. They had a magazine rack that I bought my first copy of The Double Gun Journal from, I subscribed when I walked in the door back home. Never bought a gun there, but drooled on a few. I have a Conolon 5 Star light action rod and a Mitchell 401 that came from there, you weren’t going to get those anywhere else, either.

When I was a kid, those independent sporting goods stores were my version of a candy store. It would seem you missed it.
