Hey all, I recently picked up an AyA SxS, very nice condition except for the forend tip. It's poorly inletted and very proud to the wood as you can see.

My question is, how does one fix this issue?

Also, do you think there would be any issues or problems if I let it alone?

The tip is solid, no movement or looseness.

Thanks as always!

Greg

Looks like the wood may have shrunk instead of poor inletting.

If you inlet it flush will that change the geometry of the mechanism?

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

I believe that this was mostly caused by poor inletting. It may have been exacerbated by other things, but I agree with Mike. I believe that it would be throwing good money after bad to try to correct it.

Looks like it got wet where it contracted the wood. Black stains and rotten edges not bad inletting.

The fix would be cutting away the rot and fill with fresh wood or epoxy putty then re inlet and touch up finish.

Thanks Mark! Makes sense, after all you're the pro.

Perhaps someday I'll fix it....who knows

Stay well!

Greg
