FYI - 2 recent issues caused me to shut down the bbs for several hours.

First there was a denial of service attack which was whacking at the site for several hours. Basically over 7000 fabricated users/bots were accessing the bbs concurrently causing a cached memory file with a data cap to exceed that cap. I can not modify that cap but may be able to move the file to a different data engine to mitigate future issues…I hesitate to do that because it will slow things down.

Second, we have exceeded my servers allocated storage capacity for the posts storage file. I have pruned older threads from the for sale forum and will begin to remove old off topic posts in the major forums.

My hosting company will begin to charge me for the extra data and this will force me to either move to a new provider or actively solicit revenue sources to pay for the site.

As it stands I was upside down last year by $700 and the way things are going this year it will be worse.

I figured something more serious had to be “up” this time. Sorry. We appreciate all you do to keep this site up and available.

Mr. Weber: Thank you for all of your ongoing efforts. Another web page I frequent is having similar issues, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.

The "other webpage" (& not about guns) is now using a defensive technology called "Cloudflare" to defeat the bots and the scammers and it's actually something of a ongoing "pain" to log-on (thankfully, only occasionally), but...it has seemingly solved those ever-more challenging interweb problems.

There are now "looping verification" challenges (which can be irritating) and some of the other users have even changed their browsers to help with all that, but this seems to be the way the world is going now.

Adapt or die, right?

I'll follow FallCreeks lead and make another donation to help out too.

Again, thank you for what you do. I'd be sad if all this (this webpage) went away.
