However... most $600 guns need about $500 worth of work to make them serviceable and safe (& that's assuming you can find someone reasonably competent to do it) and with this gun that work has already been done (& spectacularly).

There are other intangibles here as well (history, originality, & rarity) and maybe these things only mean something to me but...time will tell after all.
