Quite possibly. Killing wild hogs with knives has always been a thing. Never a new idea, as it was done so back before firearms were even a thought in the mind of hunters. But, these days if the hog isn't tied up and hauled away alive it is killed with a long bladed fighting knife.
I had thought it to be a foolhardy thing to do until a few years ago when we were beset by a sounder of wild hogs that were devastating a field of our irrigated corn. I called a neighbor, who keeps and hunts a pack of hog dogs to help neighboring landowners get rid of specific, very troublesome hogs. They bayed a really big one in a thicket just off the edge of the corn field. I walked up behind my friend who was nearer to the big hog, which was caught by the dogs by both ears. The hog's rear end was towards us and as we approached my friend unsheathed his big knife and turned and handed it to me. I knew what he wanted and went in past him and thrust the blade into the heart area just behind the right front leg. Two or three thrusts and I was satisfied with the amount of bleeding I was seeing. I backed away and soon the big black hog sunk to the ground and died.
I cleaned up a little bit at my shop before going home to my sweet wife. She would have been mortified at my appearance when I came out of that melee. When these beasts are destroying a corn or peanut field it's not hard to work up enough angst to stick one, trust me.
