Most collectors know about Eley’s wire cartridges in England, but fewer have seen the French answer to the same problem: Pierre-François Davoust’s “shot concentrator.” Marketed in the 1850s, these cartridges held the shot together for several yards before releasing it in flight, producing tighter patterns and greater penetration.
