Before the one ounce wads were available we used to routinely load one ounce of shot and the AA12 wad in the compression formed AA shells. They crimped well enough and I've shot 10's of thousands of them.

If you can find the old AA shells, have at it. I'm still using up AA12 wads in just this fashion.

I still curse the AAHS. What a giant step backwards. They are all different lengths. The silver ones are the best. The grey ones are junk to the reloader. In short, they took the best product out there and destroyed it, going on what? 30 years now?

I never thought I'd find AA hulls in the barrels, but I do now.
