I'm going to use the last of my Hodgdon Clay powder and figured I would use it to load for my Fox. Their data shows loads with WINAA hulls with 16.2 grains, the lowest when using REM209P primers. I'm going to set the machine at 16 grains because that's what it says when using Winchester 209s, and Fed 209Ps, which I also have. The data also says to use the WAASL wad for the one-ounce load, but I have a big bag of CB1118-12 that Clay Buster says is a duplicate of the WinAA wad, and they also say it is for 1oz to 1&1/8 oz of shot. I'm figuring the 2&5/8 inch chambers will fix the issue of using 16 grains instead of 16.2, and, well, technically, slightly wrong wad with the right amount of shot should be okay. Assuming everything fits in the shell, am I going too far off the recipe? Thanks. I'm trying to wind things down here.

The 1 1/8 Claybuster wad is not the replacement for the WAASL wad. It is the replacement for the AA wad. You may have a little extra space in your shell. If the shell fills up and crimps OK, you should be alright.

You'll need to take up cup space for sure. There is no way to convert a 1 1/8 wad to 1oz without a bad crimp. Try hand loading one. 16 grains is less volume than 16.2 Then you are trying to use a wad with a shorter base, and deeper cup. If you get proper wad pressure, you'll have a 1/4" void at the top.
You should go to your gun club on their busiest weekday morning and trade wads with somebody. We have guys fixated on economy that buy 7/8, and 1 oz 12ga wads by the 10's of thousands. Perhaps your club does as well.
Out there doing it best I can.

Popcorn kernels. That is what a buddy of mine used.

Before the one ounce wads were available we used to routinely load one ounce of shot and the AA12 wad in the compression formed AA shells. They crimped well enough and I've shot 10's of thousands of them.
If you can find the old AA shells, have at it. I'm still using up AA12 wads in just this fashion.
I still curse the AAHS. What a giant step backwards. They are all different lengths. The silver ones are the best. The grey ones are junk to the reloader. In short, they took the best product out there and destroyed it, going on what? 30 years now?
I never thought I'd find AA hulls in the barrels, but I do now.

might be time to open those chambers and lengthen them forcing cones...
b&p and others are making some wonderful low pressure 2 3/4 light loads these days...

Hodgdon Clays powder Rem. 209P WAA12SL 1oz shot 6,500psi 1,125fps I have the components to make these, and it is my understanding, if not incorrect, that Fox said their 2&5/8 chambers were intended for the 2&3/4 inch shell. I'm only going to use the guns on rare occasions anyway, as there is very little to hunt around here with a shogun, and should I do any extensive shooting, I will choose another shotgun. Thanks for the advice.
