Like Carcano, I also dispute the bottom barrel being chambered for .32 Remington. In addition to the date of inception, the 32 Remington is not a rimmed cartridge. The 32-40 Ballard/Winchester would be a more likely cartridge of this general size, but I believe most likely would be one of the smaller, now obsolete, straight cased 32 caliber cartridges. Possibly there were some of the correct cartridges with the rifle at one time, if they were loaded by Remington, that could have caused the confusion.
