Stan: My then rural Pennsylvania family have always treasured finding these little artifacts from the past. My paternal grandfather would walk specific farm fields after a good rain, something he did well into his 80s. He had also found some pre-revolutionary English coins (pennies) in that area over the years and he always theorized that some significant conflicts had occurred there in the now-distant past. I believe "knapping" is the term for the forming of flint and chert into arrowheads and spear points? Hey all, this last weekend was our Grouse and Hun opener. Got rained out both days Went out today around noon. Very humid and hot. Have a search for Grimes Graves flint knapping museum, over here in Norfolk, England.
It is a fascinating place. You can buy selections of new flint ready for your musket or pistol all in different sizes.
