I bought this gun at an auction and it will most likely be used as a banquet gun, a prize gun at a clays shoot, or a raffle gun for our RGS Chapter.
The description from the auction house was minimal, so it didn't attract a lot of bids:
Description:
12 GA Serial # 4314 Barrel 30 C&R
Categories: Firearms
Manufacturer: J Dougall
Model: Side by Side
Action: SxS Shotgun
Caliber/Gauge: 12 GA
Serial Number: 4314
Barrel: 30
It's a 2 1/2" extractor gun, J.D. Dougall & Sons West Nile St. Glasgow on the rib.
Very shootable modern dimensions: 14" LOP, 1 1/2" DOC, 2" DOH, a nudge of cast off; other than being a bit too short for me, I'd have no problem shooing it.
6 lbs., 11 oz, Balance point just in front of the hinge pin.
Barrels are very good, I suspect a refinish.
An oddity with numbers: Number on the tang: 4314; number on rib under barrel, and front of barrel flats: 22458. Not sure what's going on there.
I find the locks interesting - and I am wondering if that will help establish how old this gun is?

A different number from the Serial No. on the tang:

The same number is on the bottom rib above the barrel flats; picture below.
