bolt action. savage model 1920. this one weighs right at 6 lbs, and is chambered in 250 savage [ 250/3000]. one of the first light weight commercial bolt action rifles.

pretty handy little classic rifle, somewhat hard to find. a good little mountain rifle, or 'stalking rifle' ?

That’s an interesting rifle, Cable. Thanks for sharing it with us. Last week I read this Jack O’Connor article, and he mentions the Savage Model 1920. He said it was made only in 250/3000. My first centerfire was a Savage Model 110. It was a club, but your 1920 looks trim. O’Connor’s article has a lot of great history about gun companies and custom makers.

The Schmidt & Habermann Mod. 21 followed suit almost immediately. :-)

Jack shared more information about custom makers and various rifles in that article than he did in the several decades I read his columns in Outdoor Life as a youngster.

Cool rifle, and innovative for its time. Made famous by Larry Koller. Lots of them were chambered in 300 Sav. as well.

I had hoped to upload an illustration from Col. A.I.R. Glasfurd’s second book on Indian Shikari showing his .250/3000 1920 Savage propped up against the large Sambhur stag he had just shot with it.

Unfortunately as Imgur has just blocked its UK subscribers I cannot now do that and furthermore all Cable’s excellent pictures are now “content not viewable in your region”.
