I didn't get far with the course but I've always remembered their suggested method of finishing off a bird. Any bird. Place the bird on it's breast and put your foot on the back with enough force to prevent breathing. The 'dying flutter' signifies the job is done. Doesn't muss up the feathers at all!...Geo
