The Blue Book says $425 @ 90%, plus 50% for 28 ga, if condition is 90%+, taking it up to $637.50. To me, a visible repair would be a minus consideration. The looseness is probably the screws that hold the forend iron to the wood. That looseness is also possibly why it cracked. I'd tell him what the Blue Book says offer $600,and see what happens. They're good guns but not overly valuable.
