Picked up a LC Smith Ideal Grade at auction for $400 shipped. Hoping I didn't get burned too badly?
Wood is intact. Bores I'm not sure. I'll know more when I get it in my hands.
Seller states it's 28" choked Full and Imp Mod. Sideplates are engraved.
Serial # FW12318
Curious as to manufacture date.

$400.00 shipped is a great price for an Ideal grade L.C. Smith assuming it is in decent condition and has good shootable bores. But condition is everything, and the smaller bore sizes will have more value than the more common 12 gauge. Condition of the wood and metal, along with amount of original remaining finishes, case hardening colors, etc. all factor into the value.

Try to post some pics when you get it, or a link to the auction, to get a better handle on value.

Have you been on the LCSCA site?
Lots of information under 'Shotguns' and the 'FAQs'
https://www.lcsmith.org/
The Hunter Arms shipping records at that date should include to where the gun was originally shipped, and possibly the original purchaser. If you are interested that information would be part of a Research Letter
https://www.lcsmith.org/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=43784&module_id=245742

I assume the gun is a 12g? It would then have 2 3/4" chambers.
I would suggest that a double gun specialist check the gun, including examining the head of the stock for cracks.

Sorry, I left out that it's 12 gauge. I'm very new to sxs doubles.

I have an old 16 ga Union Firearms co. Made in Toledo Ohio. Picked that one up as a parts gun for $100. When it got here I realized it was in such good condition that it was far from a parts gun.

Also have a 16 ga Ithaca field made 1929. And a 12Ga lefever from around the same time period.

Here's a link to the auction. The pictures are horrible. I've taken a chance on seller's that were too lazy to take decent pictures and won out in the past.
I'm hoping that's the case here.

I've visited the LCSCA site a few times. I'm a bit overwhelmed at the amount of information/models/grades.
Still trying to make sense of it all.

I'll post better pictures when it gets here.
