I was surprised to see that the Double Gun Journal is coming back in a digital format today. Did anyone else see this? I'm a little unclear of where this is going, but will follow and subscribe for now.
There is more interesting stuff about guns and hunting stuff on You Tube than I can view in a lifetime, or ten lifetimes. Why would I pay $90.00 for more of the same? I think Dan's Volume 3 of The Parker Story is a much more interesting project. It sounds like the lack of content for the Double Gun Journal was less of a problem than the lack of income. I thought Dan was just worn out from many years of editing the DGJ. Apparently not. Whatever, good luck to him on his two new projects.
What in hell is a substack app or an rss feed? So I send Dan ninety bucks and look at my screen and see nothing. I guess I need to go back to school. I never had a student loan, I paid in cash. Big mistake, I guess.
I'll wait to see how the actual content is reviewed by subscribers. Not sure if they email a pdf or what. I have work industry publications that are online only and controlled to prevent printing, saving, etc. They're a pain to use and it's more like renting than owning.
pdf, is that profanity or a kiss? In the sixties, I installed computers for my Uncle Sam, used computers for 29 years in my career position, forgot everything I ever learned. In my retirement years, I haven't continued to learn anything related to a computer except how to turn it on. Dan Cote will have to be patient with me.

Portable document format. ISO 32000. It is basically a format for documents that is handy to use for most, because many different apps can open and display it. Came on the scene around 1992.
If you installed computers in the 1960s and have truly forgotten everything you ever learned, that is a net positive, as nothing from the 1960s is relevant, or, matters, today. If you have a credit card or PayPal account, you can pay Mr. Cote’ in about a minute. If you have a credit card you can open and have a PayPal account in about 5 minutes. Mr. Cote’ will email you a file for the month (s) you paid for, and, it is a pretty safe bet you will be able to get the PDF to open, and you can then read what interests you. You can create a file to store them, leave them to pile up in your email, or delete them when you are finished. Your phone, device, laptop or desktop computer are all capable of opening a PDF, or, allowing you to pay for the subscription that Mr. Cote’ is offering.
A good rule of thumb on the World Wide Web is, if it costs money, and you pay for it, it will happen so fast you won’t believe it.
It is an interesting project. I am not sure I personally would want someone else generating AI-videos that would "bring my stories to life." I am more ok with the AI-narrations.
Also, as of Dec 2025 anyway, AI models can't generate a pinfire gun to save their life so my content likely wouldn't work anyway!
I hope there are also plans for articles and not just the AI-generated videos of the articles.
P.S. Also, Substack is a very popular platform for paid newsletters and podcasts for those wondering. Additionally, as someone whose career revolves around AI and tech I am more than happy to give any thoughts around that too.
Much as I loved my monthly DGJ, part of the experience I loved was physically handling the magazine. I read Diggory's digital publication regularly and it is filled with interesting new content monthly. I pay nothing for it. It strikes me that $9 per month is more than the last subscription price of the physical DGJ.
I don't begrudge Mr Cote earning a living but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around renting the content in digital format for $9 per month.
The world cries out for such: he is needed & needed badly- the man who can carry a message to Garcia
I wish Daniel the very best in this new endeavor. I doubt very seriously I will subscribe. The time each day I want to spend at a computer has already maxxed out. I'm not adding any more.
I would hope that all who decide to spend $90/yr. for this new DGJ would also consider donating to the upkeep of THIS forum, if they are not already supporting it financially. I'd be embarrassed to openly spend time here and not be supporting it, then announce that I was purchasing the new DGJ in digital format.
I'm looking with some interest, hoping the format is easily searchable and most definitely saveable. I've been caught in the past when I didn't proactively save something. My thought is some of the authors may have little or no interest in putting the information out in any e-form on their own, and that there might be a closing window. Some of the information might otherwise be lost in old boxes that family members don't know what to do with. We'll see.
I also enjoyed the high quality of the print version of Double Gun Journal, and still enjoy re-reading copies from my collection. It wasn't ever the cheapest magazine, but I felt it was worth it.
On the other hand, I have had digital access to the American Rifleman for years, and seldom look at it. I still prefer the print version. I could be wrong, but if the print version of DGJ couldn't survive, I don't think a $90.00 per year digital version is going to do well.
I'm also curious about the format subscribers will receive. Pretty much anything that can be saved can also be passed along to non-subscribers. Copyright protection is not going to prevent sharing. What is going to prevent guys from sharing the passwords or access codes to Digital DGJ the same way people shared Netflix accounts?
Voting for anti-gun Democrats is dumber than giving treats to a dog that shits on a Persian Rug
This new DGJ encourages submission of ANY article on any subject related to our love of shotguns. If you look at the cover book titled Waterfowling and Waterfowl Guns, you will see a tab that will lead you to a submission form. It's open to all who wish to have an article published.
Keith, Kids my son’s age are up in arms over new video game consoles that do not have a hard copy of the games they wish to purchase. The companies sell them a license to use the game. One fine day, the license quits working and you don’t have access to that game. The crafty devils have also eliminated ports on the console, or, if they are there, they are proprietary, and putting the wrong card in the console causes it to “brick”, or, to become a paperweight with zero functionality.
Some game companies took the whole “you will own nothing, and you will be happy” thing to the next level.

Be strong, be of good courage. God bless America, long live the Republic.
I certainly hope that he continues the tradition of shamelessly pimping for his advertisers and the 90% of content being advertisements and advertorials. It would be a bad idea to abandon such a successful business model.
Oh, wait .....
Dr.WtS Mysteries of the Cosmos Unlocked available by subscription
Hate? Meh. It is just a discussion by a group of gun cranks about a different format of publication, some couldn’t wait to subscribe, some are wait and see, some have too much computer on their plate as it is. Dr. Sane is not exactly wrong about the level of advertising in the original publication, either.
Some double gun guys still don’t accept the notion that O/Us are, indeed, double guns. A bit of a hidebound lot, and, as noted, cranks.
Hate actually looks more like this:
Kids liberated from Auschwitz. You know, a German death camp.
Nothing here on the DGS board really compares.
Hate, is a pretty strong word. Maybe you think American double gun enthusiasts are hateful, but, far, far, better examples of hate exist.
Hate, eh ? Surprised ? Seems like a particularly common commodity these days. I'll avoid exploring the emerging fascist aspect.
Ah, Cripes. Another lefty tossing around a word so overused that we have reached a point where it literally means nothing.
Fascist. Racist. Gender. Intersectionality. Whatever. In just three short years, perhaps the butthurt will ease. Your China cabinet will never look the same, however.
The problem with socialism is you eventually run out of uncorrupted words to use.
Best, Ted

I don't know what socialism has to do with it. Not particularly relevant to this conversation.
But there certainly is plenty of hate, and you are as good as any of them at practicing it.
Perhaps I’ve known Chas a bit longer than you. You might better understand the “relevance” if I drew you a picture, but, I doubt it.
I shoulda’ added hate to the list.
Best, Ted

Yep you've always got the answer.
In your own words, you hated my shotgun, for god's sakes.
I never said you hated my dog. You need to get your story straight. And pay attention.
Lots of hate on this forum. Fortunately, not all gun owners are quite so unfriendly.
Careful of the hypocrits, gun people in name only. Carc, try not to find hate fellowship on the internet. It used to be a serious word, before you ad your buddies turned it into a punchline.

Are you saying there are gun people here that don't have guns? Craig you're so full of yourself.

No doubt, in the grip of advancing senescence, you have confused Le Fusil’s feelings about your Merkel with me.
Can’t make it up.
Anywho’, if random dude on a gun board says he hates Dodge trucks, or, Browning shotguns, or some other inanimate thingo, I don’t equate that with pictures of kids rescued from a German concentration camp.
Why would I? Why would you?
Best, Ted

No, the fuse hates my dog and my gun. I know that, and especially my gun. You hate my gun, remember? But not my Merkel. Why is it so hard? Do you remember so little?
Actually, you had quite a rant about that gun. But then you have so many rants. I suppose it's hard to keep them all straight. Hate consumes you my boy. But you're the last one to know.
