original 20's were heavy and still kicked like a mule. A fair amount of chatter on Facebook about this and several CSMC detractors saying no way. CSMC earned their detractors the old fashioned way, by treating them as expendable, from what I have seen. Best, Ted

This is not meant as an endorsement or a bashing of the old Ruger Red Label(s). . . . but I've got a good friend who is a duck guide for 60 days every year in AR. He has killed more ducks with his RRL than most of us have ever seen, much less killed. It failed him many years ago wherein it wouldn't fire the top barrel sometimes, and the ejectors weren't very good, either. I would put the number of ducks it has killed way into the thousands. But then, he is the kind of guy that could kill limits of ducks with a Spanish El Faisan, if that's all he had.
We were hunting together once, many years ago, and he handed it to me, and told me to shoot a duck with it. i did and handed it back to him. It was hugely unremarkable . . . . but it would kill a duck. Much like an inexpensive hammer will drive a nail.
May God bless America and those who defend her.

Duck gun: ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/39Y30f6J/IMG-1023.jpg) If I was a duck guide in Baffin Bay, 4 months a year, I suppose I might have one. I’m not, and, I don’t. Best, Ted

That's my buddy's gun, except for the rattle can camo job.
May God bless America and those who defend her.

If Ruger cannot get CSMC to make the rear of the top rib meet flush with the top of the frame on the production guns, they should hold up introduction until that glaring hicky is fixed. Looks to be close to 1/16": https://ruger-public.s3.amazonaws.com/news/redLabel3-L.jpgJR

I have three of the old RRLs in 20 and 28, and I like them, especially the 20 Sporter with 30" barrels. That one compares well to my 687 Silver Pigeon in terms of handling.

If I remember correctly, the late Tom Ruger spearheaded the original Red Label. Ruger wanted a strong, machine-made over and under that a buyer would be proud to own. They generally had nice wood on them.
They have their following along with their detractors, but they do tend to get snatched up pretty quickly when they appear on the used gun market. Especially the 28-gauge guns.
I just don't see this re-introduction as being a true Red Label or being successful. Remington tried and failed at least three times with the over and under after the 3200.
I hope it works out for them but when folks look at the price tag on their lever action rifles, they buy a Henry.

William B. Ruger. Bill Ruger. His original partner was Alexander Sturm.
