This is not meant as an endorsement or a bashing of the old Ruger Red Label(s). . . . but I've got a good friend who is a duck guide for 60 days every year in AR. He has killed more ducks with his RRL than most of us have ever seen, much less killed. It failed him many years ago wherein it wouldn't fire the top barrel sometimes, and the ejectors weren't very good, either. I would put the number of ducks it has killed way into the thousands. But then, he is the kind of guy that could kill limits of ducks with a Spanish El Faisan, if that's all he had.

We were hunting together once, many years ago, and he handed it to me, and told me to shoot a duck with it. i did and handed it back to him. It was hugely unremarkable . . . . but it would kill a duck. Much like an inexpensive hammer will drive a nail.

Duck gun:

If I was a duck guide in Baffin Bay, 4 months a year, I suppose I might have one.

I’m not, and, I don’t.

Ted

That's my buddy's gun, except for the rattle can camo job.

If Ruger cannot get CSMC to make the rear of the top rib meet flush with the top of the frame on the production guns, they should hold up introduction until that glaring hicky is fixed. Looks to be close to 1/16":

Never mind, it appears to be endemic to every version of the Rizzini basic design CSMC makes:

Pitiful attention to detail. Even Tristar can get that right:

I have three of the old RRLs in 20 and 28, and I like them, especially the 20 Sporter with 30" barrels. That one compares well to my 687 Silver Pigeon in terms of handling.
