First task is to see what loadings the rifle really responds to in 45-70 GOVT. Then to see if I can tailor some smokeless loads with both 400 gr and 535 gr bullets.
It has a long enough throat to comfortably handle heavier 500 gr + bullets designed for BPCR rifles.
Will see how it handles mid-range loads. It is another 125 yr old rifle so caution will be exercised.
The challenge will be in adding possible tang alterations to handle a Vernier mid-range rear tang sight. Alternatively, to leave the sights as they - original and unmolested.
