About 130 years ago Baker Gun and Forging Company offered guns with “engraving” that seemed to be a photo etching type process. Their lowest grade sidelock would sport a game scene , maybe with the coverage similar to and L C Smith 5E or Crown grade. The scenes were elaborate and well done, maybe with a bit of hand engraving for some details or initials. I have never seen any information on the details of the process. Late into the 1890s the company hired a full time engraver, Frank Mason, and they abandoned the etching process. Mason continued to be the company engraver for a dozen years.
