I received my 10 bore double rifle today. Is there a way do debubba the punch marks on the receiver?
Maybe laser welding and strike back to smooth?

Yes, laser welding would be the best solution.

The bigger question is what would possess someone to do that to their gun?

I never try to figure out what goes on in Bubba's head. Not worth the time.

That is some of the most egregious Bubba work that I have ever seen.

Unfortunately, to do this job properly, it will take a bit more than welding. The low spots need to be built up, the welds then polished out and it appears a very small amount of re-cutting the engraving seen in the 2nd picture. Once that is properly repaired the finish needs to be blended to match. I have done a fair bit of this kind of work, check out the Holland .303 single in the single barrel forum for an example. Costly to do correctly as it involves a fair bit of time.

It looks a little like something a local brain convinced my father and practically all the men in our little town who owned guns to do. He said to fight crime and burglaries (we have never had one in that little farming village before then or since) they needed to let him take his Dremel tool and etch their social security numbers on the gun, either the trigger guard or better yet the receiver. Soooo, I just happen to have a Model 12 with my father's SSAN on the trigger guard. My brother has our granddad's Ithaca with his SSAN on the receiver. By the way, the idiot who convinced them to do this was not a hunter, did not own a gun, had never fired a gun, and truth be known probably was afraid of them. But, he was a genuine college graduate from a big university and obviously smarter than anyone else around town since few, if any, had ever been to college. I love smart people like him. (I dont even have to point out the sarcasm in my last statement do I???)

No doubt, very college graduate is dumber than the dumbest person that never went to college in the first place. No exceptions to that rule, right?

I think it's probably true that every major problem in America is the result of a college education. Well, it won't be long before we shut them all down.

You misunderstood my comment Brent. I was not talking about everyone with a college education, especially since I have one. I was talking about one individual in a small farming community in North Carolina where few people had college education. This one individual acted like he was or at least thought he was smarter than anyone in town. That was the point I was making. So you can take it however you wish to take it. As to shutting down all the colleges, I do not recall hearing that proposal anywhere. However, if a movement begins to rid all colleges and schools of professors and teaches who spread nothing but hatred for America and our way of life I am all for getting rid of them.
