Anyone here an expert on antique edged weapons. I don't know if it's even really an antique or not, or where it was made. It was buried in a box of things I got when my father passed away many years ago and just now came to light. ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/DPkQBGPg/20260109-162302.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/M53fKBQm/20260109-162252-Edit-2.jpg)

I'm as far from an expert on edged weapons as a man could be, but that is one cool blade, and it exudes authenticity.
It brings to mind Scottish scenes, be it Scottish in origin or not.
How long is it, K?
May God bless America and those who defend her.

The blade is just shy of 12 inches, overall it's just shy of 16 inches.

Any other markings on it?
Not an expert either, but it seems more 'Catholic', meaning it came from France, Italy, Portugal, Spain and/or church related. May be antique, may not be overly valuable. Is it all one piece of metal?
I have become addicted to English hammered shotguns to the detriment of my wallet.

Whenever I see an edged weapon photo, I automatically flash back to the story “ The Christmas Hatchet” by Patrick F. McManus.
Highly relatable, from my world, anyway.
Best, Ted

It brings to mind Scottish scenes, be it Scottish in origin or not. Handle part (I’m no expert either, whatever it’s called) doesn’t look Scottish at all. The cross is the key. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_patt%C3%A9e ______________________________________ Original Six matchup tonight - Wings v Canadiens. LGRW

Two piece construction as far as I can tell. I can move the handle very slightly independent of the blade. No other markings than than one you can see in the photo.

Nice deacons meeting knife. 😉
I suspect it was not intended as a weapon at all. The handle shape is not consistent with maintaining a secure grip, IMO, especially with sweat or blood soaked hands.
My guess is that it was a prop. 100 years ago there were many chapters of very secretive organizations like Knights of Columbus, Knights of Pythias, Knights of Pythagoras, etc. The members of some of those dressed in costumes for their "secret meetings". I remember as a child going in a large upstairs room above a big country store. There was a coffin, elaborate robes, armor, even swords. They were all props for their rituals.
That knife looks very much like those things I saw.
May God bless America and those who defend her.

Yes, my first thought was possibly a Masonic ceremonial dagger.

I don't believe there is such a thing as a Masonic dagger; I agree it does look like a prop. I cannot find anything similar in my sword and edged weapons books.
