Unless someone was still manufacturing the 88's after about 1900 I would suspect that the range of proof dates, no? SUPPOSEDLY manufacture ended in 1899. As I understand it they were only made for 11 years, 1888 - 1899. Schilling might have been the firm that converted and sold the rifle but not the maker, according to what I have found.
