There is not now, and never has been, a Cabela's in Eau Claire. There certainly was not one here in 2024.

There is a Scheels.

There is a Cabela's - though a small one - in La Crosse, WI.

IMO: The day Cabela's started its decline was the day it went public; that's the day that the private equity vultures started circling overhead. Once the dust settled Bass Pro, Cabela's, Sportsman's warehouse, Gander Mountain & if I heard right Macks Prairie wings are all under the same corporate umbrella and are basically one in same selling cheapened goods made to a price point in some far-off distant land. It's up to us as individual consumers to decide if we want to shop at them or not.

We have two Cabela's, two Bass-pro's & four sportsman's warehouses within 60 miles of my house and I haven't set foot in any of them in close to four years now. That's my story on this, take it for what it's worth to you.

Gander Mountain is not, nor was it ever, under the Bass Pro/Cabela's corporate umbrella.

Sportsman's Warehouse is not part of Bass Pro/Cabela's either - the proposed merger in 2021 fell apart.

Mack's Prairie Wings is in a partnership with Bass Pro/Cabela's. It is still a private, independently operated business entity.

There's nothing like no experience to justify a negative opinion. And then there is you, craig. The guy who does nothing, who has done nothing, and who will never do anything. Except whine and be a jerk. Congratulations. Right on time, with your always negative spin and no experience. YEAH, craig!

Oh the hypocrisy from the Nutty Professor....

He hates Ed, mocks him and the guns he sells. He attempts to sabotage sales when Ed advertises guns here. Yet he has never bought a single gun from Ed.

Of course, we also saw him criticizing Shotgunjones just a couple days ago for being hostile in the Model 21 16 ga. Thread. But then he goes right back to engaging in nastiness with craigd and Ted again. Demented behavior for sure! But nothing new.

I bought one shotgun from the nearest Cabela's.

They shipped it free from another store so I could examine it. The salesmen knew nothing about it, which is OK with me. I can do my own due diligence, and probably got it much cheaper than if they actually knew what they were selling.

A knowledgeable gun dealer can be a big help sometimes. But there are extremely knowledgeable gun sellers who take advantage of customers who aren't savvy. It can cut both ways.

The only problem was they insisted on doing a 4473 transfer even though I showed proof that it was a pre-1899 antique. The instant check was slow, so they wasted my time.

Knocking gun dealers happens often here., and it doesn't hurt when they are actually cheating. I'd rather knock the anti-gun Democrats who wish to restrict, tax, or eliminate all gun sellers. In a target rich environment, we should pick targets that are actually a threat to us. Let the Democrats have their way, and everyone here will wish there was still a Cabela's gun library.

For a guy that's wasted not just a few minutes, but his entire life, doing absolutely nothing, carry on. Maybe give ted a hand. He needs some help.

Then you can go back to libelling Cabelas.

Cabelas is okay, I've mention here or there that I randomly stumbled on a 44/40 Colt Lightning in one of their libraries. Good condition metal and forearm, clearly bubbaed buttstock for something like four hundred and thirty-five bucks. That was only sixish years ago, wandered in on a whim, can't say I've been in one since, maybe once. They just aren't interesting as in years gone by. How's the peaceful protest going, or are on of those pronouns that won't walk the walk?

Cabelas and BPS have really dropped from fantastic 30 years ago to the low end of mediocre today. Service, merchandise, availability. Regardless if it’s guns, shooting, or fishing they just don’t have the personable and knowledgeable employees they once had. My guess is they expanded too fast and too wide. The merger just made it worse. Thank goodness for competition and the internet. Since personal service is now in the category of button hooks and buggy whips dealing with a computer just might be preferable than talking to a person who assumes they know their subjects because they work in a sporting goods store.

I'll just treasure the good old days and this beauty bought through my friend , the late Tom Bryant.

Page four and I see don't see much clarity on the anti-gun policy at Cabela's, could someone post a link to it?

I didn't think so.......

Given the price tag, they go for, makes sense to me. Stevens plastic stocked overunders are another one. Definitely, don't want some yahoo, like you, cracking the stock in the store
I guess your form is the right way to go, own the rifle, before blowing it up.

Best,
Ted

Please explain. Full details and everything. Pictures too. Tell us all you know about that.
Weren't you the BrentD that started "high vs low" thread in the rifle forum back in June 2016? It seems that rifle disintegrated. No, there must be another BrentD, you professor types are way too smart to do something that dumb.

The same. He must think it is a big secret.

The good news is, he will help you set up for 2” chamber 12 gauge reloading.

Best,
Ted
