There has always been interest in Scottish grouse hunting here. Some bad news, unfortunately.

I don’t think there is much interest in red deer management, OR, shooting grouse for that matter on this site.

There are too many red deer doing too much damage in the Highlands, and none of the parties with a vested interest are able to find a workable solution.

On the grouse side of things, as long as estates are allowed to manage for grouse, they will just continue to raise the price of admission.

I wish it weren’t so, but that’s where it is.

if I were a Scot, I would stuff my children with venison and grouse seven days a week, just to preserve the heritage. But that’s not what people actually do.

You make a better living growing pine trees than you do shooting grouse.

I thought I remembered some discussion of the "Glorious Twelfth". I think that's what it was?

Yes, the glorious 12th is the opening day of the grouse season in the UK. I.e., 12 August.

Most estates don’t start shooting any large bags until around September 1, because the young of the year are so small and are not sporting.

But to maintain the tradition, lots of states shoot a little bit on the 12th.

It’s worth it to me, but not to others.

Double gunning for grouse on an estate that is overrun with them, is a sublime experience.

Liverwort,
I appreciate you sharing this. I’ve never been to Scotland or the UK, but I like to follow what’s going on there related to hunting and wildlife management. Sometimes I think the things they experience will be coming to us in the next so many decades. Thanks again for sharing the video.

I'm interested in both red Deer and Grouse shooting in Scotland.....I have always wanted to try walked up shooting in the heather, over setters or spaniels. The red deer appeal much more due to the tradition rather than the quality of the stags. One of those things I would love to do one day.

I have always had a bit of affection for the British people, which began with my father telling me about them from his visit there prior to going to North Africa. It is sad what has happened to the UK. Salt of the earth people put on a no-salt diet. Yes, and a good chance it will happen here unless we pay attention to the symptoms.

It's always been my thought to do activities when you can instead of delaying. Sometimes the opportunities do not present themselves at a later date.

Scotland is a fascinating destination with it's history and activities. It's a shame to have hunting undermined.

Salmon fishing may also go by the wayside in the not so distant future.
