Can anyone here tell me more about the origins and early history of the Merkel OU/Bockflinte?

I'm curious to know the thinking behind their first guns, patents they drew on, etc.

Thanks,

OWD

Beesley teed up & kicked off the O/U in circa 1912. Merkel developed the >>Weichlot<< method for joining and most O/Us wear the stamp.

Thanks, Raimey.

I'll look through that thread.

Is there any info in their about the German named Julius Coster that Dallas mentions as having a roll in the origins of the triggerplate-style hammerless shotgun?

Ah, I don't know of a Julius Cöster right off, but I just do not think he was in Suhl.

But chase >>Laufverbindung Patent<< and the name on Merkel O/Us should be Waffenfabrik Gebrüder Merkel post 1916. Gebrüder Merkel was well known for O/U platforms but so was Greifelt.

I am fortunate to be the custodian of a „ATM“ French version:

And actually, it is contained in a Cabela's Travel Case that I reach for 1st when I plan to hunt..... I just wish I would take the time to have the sling swivel screw re-installed in the stock.
