When I thought I was going to get heavily into the shotgun games, I went to K-Mart, of all places, and purchased a Beretta 685. It's still here but I got out of any sort of competing, although I still chase birds now and then. I am curious about anything regarding this shotgun. It seems there are few examples out there in the general population to which I can compare. Was this just a "field grade" 686? I do see a couple over on GB listing in the $1.2-1.5k neighborhood. Is this realistic? I think I paid a very dear (at the time) $400 for mine.

This is just a matter of curiosity for me to understand value for my records and any other tidbits that might come up. It might be the prettiest firearm I own and I like it an awful lot--but I'm easy to please. wink

Thank you!

It’s basically an upgraded, up-to-date version of the Silver Snipe or S56, using the 680 series action. Extractors, fixed chokes, etc. $1 to 2k seems nutty to me, but I don’t have a hankering for one either. I suppose if it was something that someone out there just had to have I’m sure they’d pay that for one. On the other hand, I see Beretta 686’s and Citori’s for sale here locally, consistently in the $850 to 1k range. I think the majority of buyers would probably opt in on one of those vs. a 685 or silver snipe. That last 12 gauge silver snipe I saw for sale here, the seller was asking $850. It sat for months and then he lowered the price to $500 and it was gone. I think realistically, that’s about right.
I think your gun, if it’s in a really good condition, is probably in the $700 to $850 range.

The 685...686...and 687 are all on the Beretta 680 platform; the model upgrades are mostly cosmetic. I have a Model 685E 20 gauge with double triggers 2 3/4" chambers w/28" barrels and fixed chokes originally built for the European market w/sling swivels that weighs less than 6lbs. Originally, I didn't care for the sling swivels; but after a short while in the field hunting with it, I quickly changed my mind. When I purchased my 685E, I probably paid a premium for it, but I haven't seen another one like it since.

The "better" wood sets will fit on the budget style guns OK- I set up an Essential 685 for my grown daughter to shoot at our cow pasture events. She shoots it real good often butt-kickin on the Annie Oakley line! I think I'm in that gun $750?

All the 685 models I`ve seen were just an economy version of the range, good, reliable workhorses.
