Galazan use to sell Damascus barrel lacquer now discontinued. worked very well.
Does anyone know what they were using? or where I could get some. it smelled like fingernail polish but was a thinner consistency. dried very fast
Would love to get my hands on some of that stuff

More years ago than I prefer to remember Dr. Gaddy recommended to me Behlen's Jet Spray Lacquer Finish. Their number that I use is B101-0800 Clear Gloss Sheen 75-85. I found this online:

My can has lasted for the last 15 years so it goes a long way. I hope this helps.

Good man, geco!! You beat me to it and did a much better job! Oscar Gaddy was the man!! The one thing better than to hear here him explain how to do something was to actually see his gorgeous guns in person. Which I did on occasion. Thank you!!

10-12 years ago, I had a set of 10 gauge Prussian Daly hammer gun 3 Iron Hufnagel barrels re-blacked. The guy who did it is no longer in business, but did a great job. However, when I received the barrels they were shiny as a candy apple from the lacquer he put on them. I promptly took some 0000 steel wool and lacquer thinner and cleaned them of all of it. Did not harm the pattern at all. They looked much better and authentic after a wipe down with a light coat of Clenzoil.

I would have most likely done exactly the same thing.

I don't lacquer case-hardened parts, either. Nothing makes them "pop", or look more realistic, than a light oil wipe-down.

I can partially understand using a coat of something to protect from handling, salty sweat, sunlight, etc. But, not for looks.

Become I appreciate the links but I still can’t find the lacquer you recommended here in the USA where this can be purchased. I found it in Canada but with shipping it was $80 for a 16 oz can.
Anyone know a stateside source where it is in stock and can be purchased?

When you look for Behlan Clear spray lacquer it comes up under Mohawk. You can get it at Rockler. I think you could get just about any clear spray laquer that is made by Rustoleum, Krylon, Minwax or a lot of other companies. Did you try Amazon? It should only be about $30.00 a can or less.
