LRF, I would love to help but due to deterioration of walking ability I have pretty much stopped going to gun shows with my buddies. They are ready to go home before I can get halfway through, even with my rollator. Driving by myself is not a problem, but if I go with them, I wouldn't have to walk from the parking lot. Not only am I sorry, but I miss the shows anyway. Mike

Can you buy one from a foreign company and legally have it shipped to the USA? Here's an English company that has some. They say they will ship internationaly but are not responsible for the import laws/restrictions in the buyers Country\ .. I've never had any dealings with them https://www.ds-solutions.co.uk/Long-Lee-Spares-and-Accessories

Update: I thought I had looked at this supplier a few weeks back and remembered when I tried to place an order. When you do It comes up out of stock. Ok its a dead end. I will try to contact them next week either by email or phone and see if they think they will be getting any in and update with any news I get. Thanks Kutter, however of course still looking

LRF, I greatly enjoyed this thread on the Steyr-Mannlicher rebuild and was happy to see you found a W. W. Greener Lee-Speed. Lee-Speeds have clearly gone up in value on this side of the pond since I last owned one about 50 years ago, but I was surprised by the asking price on this one. ![[Linked Image from thumbs2.imgbox.com]](https://thumbs2.imgbox.com/fc/e3/ugFgxOlg_t.png) It has the slot for the magazine cut-off but as a sporting rifle that may never have been fitted (or soon thrown away?). I gave a friend, as a wedding present, a Lee-Speed Officer’s Carbine with all the sporting features but stocked almost to the muzzle with a nose cap to take the Pattern 1888 Bayonet.

Wow! Back in the early 70s I had a Speed like that but it was in 8x50R Mannlicher. Cost about $100. Shot really well. I always liked it but it managed to get traded off.

Remington Arms 'Lee Sporter'.
The one piece stock design as opposed to the Brit Lee-Enfield 2 piece. The frame, bolt and components are different on the Rem than the British Lee's.
The Remington was orig made as a Military rifle and the US did buy some. The US was in the transition period looking for a repeater to replace the Trapdoor and this was one of the offerings at the time. The version was the normal full stocked military rifle of the day. Some also sold to States for Militia primarily. 45-70 cal for US issue, but some of the Militia rifles were in 30-40K
The Rem Lee sporter version came about around 1910 +/-. They came in a long list of calibers. The above plus calibers like 30WCF, 32-40, 35Win(?).
The sporters came in standard like the one shown and a Deluxe with better wood, checkering and the PG was slightly tighter design. A grip cap and some other goodies were standard or available on the Deluxe.
The Rem-Lee sporters don't quite bring the same as a Lee/Speed Brit sporter. But an orig condition (the one shown is restocked) in Deluxe form will give them a run.
My Rem Lee sporter is a project rifle right now. I have 3 of the Lee/Speed sporters and they are beautiful rifles to handle and shoot. Mine are all 303brit cal but they came in 4 or 5 other calibers as well. Lots of variations and options.

A gentleman in New Zealand has been trying to help .......... So the current plan is: 1. Find a dust cover 2. Have the barrel bored and rifled to 35 caliber 3. Design a peep sight roughly based on the Lyman 36 concept and make it (already in progress) 4. Make a new stock using a blank I have of Australian walnut. 5. Re-blue ...... Well things have been going my way of late so I thought I would update. The gentleman I mentioned from New Zealand's handle is Sarg, and Mark has been way more then helpful. Today I received a package from him that contained the much needed Lee-Enfield dust cover and also 2 near mint boxes (empty of the rounds as those could not be shipped) Kynoch MK VI Red Yellow 303 British one of solids and the other of soft points. Plus a third box of CAC (The Colonial Ammunition Company) Soft Nosed Mark VI ammo. This box is interest in that on the side it says "For Red Deer Cattle and Pig Shooting". Seems to me they could have added Lions but maybe they didn't know the story. LOL Anyway with regards to the LE rifle I am meeting a friend this weekend who has an action wrench for the LE and I will then pull the barrel and off it will go to be rebored to 35 caliber. I have decided not to build a side mount peep sight as I could not come up with a design that did not look like a wart hanging off the side.

Sir, is your friend willing to take on pulling another barrel? I am in MN and you and I met a few years back at MWCA The Coliseum show. I have an clapped out LEC I'd like to work on. Sorry, don't mean to hijack your thread. We can continue via PM if you wish. Thank you!
