I wonder how many of those elbows uppers wish they were in Arizona or Florida right now.
As of February 24, 2026, over 26,000 Canadians have registered with Global Affairs Canada as being in Mexico. Many are currently stranded or under shelter-in-place orders in areas like Puerto Vallarta due to severe cartel violence following the death of a drug cartel leader. Major Canadian airlines have cancelled numerous flights.
Numbers: More than 26,000 Canadians are registered in the country, with approximately 5,000 located in the affected Jalisco State alone.
Situation: The Canadian government has not announced plans to send military or rescue flights.
Advice: Travelers are urged to register with Global Affairs Canada and follow local authority instructions, which include sheltering in place.
